NBC Sets Special Post-‘Sunday Night Football’ Edition of Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Tonight Show’
NBC is planning a night of football and Fallon next month.
The network says that it will air a special Sunday edition of the late night series The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, following NBC’s presentation of Sunday Night Football.
The NFL matchup is slated to see the Indianapolis Colts take on the New York Jets, while Jimmy Fallon has booked Jon Hamm, Lindsay Lohan and Pharrell as guests on his special show.
Sunday Night Football is TV’s most-watched program in primetime TV, and has been for 13 years, making it an attractive lead-in for the Tonight Show, which will tape in its 30 Rockefeller Plaza studio. Local news will run in between the end of the NFL program and the start of the Tonight Show.
NBC has given the Tonight Show a prime post-sports perch before. The program has previously aired special episodes after Sunday Night Football in past seasons, and has also aired special episodes during the Olympics.
“Every time we get the opportunity to work with our friends at NBC Sports, it’s something we look forward to,” says Chris Miller, showrunner for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “We can’t wait to bring our show to fans of Sunday Night Football. It’s going to be a must-watch night of TV.”
“What a great night of entertainment with a special episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, following Sunday Night Football. Jimmy and the show have been great collaborators with NBC Sports over the years,” added Rick Cordella, president of NBC Sports.
