Newport Beach TV Fest: ‘Running Point’ Star Kate Hudson Set for TV Performance of the Year Award, Live ‘Awards Chatter’ Podcast

Kate Hudson, the Oscar-nominated actress who is currently in Emmy contention for her portrayal of a semi-fictional version of Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss in the Netflix comedy series Running Point, has been tapped for the TV Performance of the Year Award (Actress) at the inaugural Newport Beach TV Fest, the fest announced Thursday.

The award will be presented to Hudson immediately following a live recording of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast — moderated by yours truly and featuring a career-retrospective conversation — which will kick off at 7pm on Thursday, June 5, at Newport Beach’s Lido Theater.

“We are honored to recognize Kate Hudson for her outstanding performance as team president Isla Gordon in Running Point,” Newport Beach TV Fest CEO and executive director Gregg Schwenk said in a statement. “Kate brings her infectious energy and comedic brilliance to this role. She has captivated audiences for decades, and we are looking forward to celebrating her work with The Hollywood Reporter.”

Hudson, 46, shot to fame via 2000’s Almost Famous, for which she was nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe. She subsequently starred in hit films including 2003’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, 2009’s Bride Wars and 2022’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. She is also a producer, singer/songwriter (her debut album was released in 2024), New York Times bestselling author, podcast host (she co-hosts Sibling Revelry), entrepreneur and philanthropist.

The Newport Beach TV Fest, an offshoot of the Newport Beach Film Festival, will be four-day celebration of television artistry. Running Thursday, June 5 through Sunday, June 8, it will feature screenings and events celebrating both established and emerging talent. Previously announced honorees include Nobody Wants This star Adam Brody and Shrinking star Jason Segel. Tickets are available for purchase at nbtvfest.com.
