Nicky Hilton Blows Out Some Candles (And Sells Some Minis)
Every day’s a holiday if you’re a Hilton. But even for Hiltons, some days are more festive than others.
Nicky Hilton’s Oct. 5 birthday — she turned 41 — magically coincided with the launch of a new collab capsule collection she created with Aussie designer Rebecca Vallance. “The Nicky Hilton for Rebecca Vallance Holiday Collection” was feted by friends and family, courtesy of luxe retail site MyTheresa, at a posh but cozy at-home soiree… at the Bel Air mansion of parents Kathy and Rick Hilton.
The palatial estate was made even more glittery, if that’s possible, by the presence of guests Kris Jenner, Jennifer Tilly, The Apprentice star Maria Bakalova, Jamie King, Kelly Osbourne, a couple of Real Housewives, Dylan Mulvaney, Rachel Zoe and singer Jessie J — and by the collection of thirty one sparkly mini’s, midi’s and maxi’s, festooned with Nicky’s fave girlish embellishments: bows, rosettes, sequins, stars and more sequins.
The birthday girl herself donned a spangled mini in a favorite color — icy periwinkle. Sister Paris modelled its twin in red; mom Kathy was similarly mini decked out in black and silver. So many female guests wore the collection’s disco ball mini’s — frequently paired with jeweled stilettos — it looked like Barbie Christmas. The unsurprisingly tall blonde Aussie designer went for red satin to match her glossy lips.
How did Hilton, mom of three (who lives in New York with husband James Rothschild), come to meet the Sydney-based Vallance?
“I didn’t know her, but I knew this beautiful Aussie shared my aesthetic: flirty, feminine, fun,” she explained. “I had to attend a charity event while heavily pregnant, so I tried to track down this perfect Rebecca dress. It was sold out everywhere, so I slid into her DM’s. That DM got me the dress!”
When Vallance visited New York last year, she and Hilton bonded over margaritas and began dreaming up the collab concept. “We worked on the dresses every day since, nonstop, a lot via zoom. When MyTheresa said they liked it, they backed it immediately. Despite a hefty price tag: $800 and $1200 a piece, the dresses are selling briskly, with Nicky modeling in the lookbook.
But back to Hilton’s birthday bash. Aside from the eye candy, there were edible treats as well, including roasted tenderloin of beef, Japanese cured salmon, breast of chicken, tomato bruschetta, rack of lamb, mini chicken pot pies, cheese puffs, Waygu beef, potato cups with caviar, spicy tuna tartare and a full chocolate fondue station, complete with pumpkin madeleines.
And, of course, there was cake, a pink three-layer tower of sugar and butter that Hilton cut into as her guests serenaded her with a chorus of “Happy Birthday.”
As far as we could tell, though, Nicky never took a bite.
