‘Nobody Wants This’ Starts Production on Season 2 With Kristen Bell and Adam Brody

A big mazel tov is in order for the new couple of Nobody Wants This, as the pair played by Kristen Bell and Adam Brody are looking snuggly and happy together in the first look at season two.

The Netflix rom-com has begun production on season two in Los Angeles, and the onscreen lovebirds marked the news with a behind the scenes photo (above) showing them in character as Joanne and Noah cuddling together on a couch.

The Netflix show about a hot rabbi named Noah (Brody) and an agnostic podcaster, Joanne (Bell), falling in love became a breakout hit for the streamer when it debuted in September 2024. The series was quickly renewed two weeks after season one released.

Season two will premiere later this year, with a specific date yet to be announced.

Nobody Wants This spent six weeks in Netflix’s Global English Top 10 TV List, reaching the Top 10 in 89 countries. Over its first 11 days of release, it racked up almost 90 million hours of viewing worldwide, the equivalent of 26.2 million complete views of the season.

The first season explored Noah and Joanne’s modern obstacles to love — and their sometimes well-meaning, sometimes sabotaging families — and ended with the pair committing to, against all of those obstacles, pursuing a relationship together. “So, how does this work?” were the final words spoken, and creator Erin Foster was quickly working on that answer.

The writers room had already kicked back up before the season two announcement was made official, with Foster bringing on new showrunners with Bruce Eric Kaplan and Jenni Konner, and plotting to swerve Joanne’s story (which was inspired by her own life for season one) in the direction the show would take them. “Joanne does not have to have the same journey that I had,” Foster told THR after season one, while also reflecting on the cultural impact of her show about Judaism being so popular amid a surge in antisemitism. “But, I don’t think this is the kind of show to rob the audience of what they want to see,” she added. “I think this is a show where you want to get what you want.”

Along with Bell and Brody, Justine Lupe and Timothy Simons return as series regulars for season two. Returning star Jackie Tohn has also been upped to series regular.

A handful of guest stars have joined the cast, including Brody’s real-life wife, actress Leighton Meester. Meester will play Abby, who is described as Joanne’s (Bell) middle school nemesis who is now an Instagram mommy influencer. Miles Fowler will play Lenny, Noah’s (Brody) Matzah Ballers teammate who gets set up with Morgan (Lupe). Alex Karpovsky (Girls, Angelyne) plays “Big Noah,” an overly confident rabbi at Noah’s temple. And Arian Moayed (Succession) plays Dr. Andy, a charming, highly regarded (particularly by himself) psychotherapist who might just be the perfect match for Morgan.

Nobody Wants This is executive produced by creator Foster, along with her sister Sara Foster, and Steven Levitan, Bell, Danielle Stokdyk, Jeff Morton, Kaplan, Konner and Nora Silver. Oly Obst is executive producer for 3arts. The series is produced by 20th Television in association with Steven Levitan Productions.
