Patrick Schwarzenegger Says White Lotus Fans Venmoed Him When They Enjoyed Episodes: ‘I Sent It All Back, Don’t Worry’ (Exclusive)

NEED TO KNOW

  • Patrick Schwarzenegger teamed up with Aimee Lou Wood to promote Venmo’s latest campaign, which he tells PEOPLE reminded him of a “strange” White Lotus experience
  • The actor reveals that fans of the show would send him money as they watched the episodes, but he “sent it all back”
  • Schwarzenegger and Wood also say the partnership came at a perfect time, as they were searching for opportunities to work together again

Patrick Schwarzenegger hit the jackpot when he landed a role in The White Lotus.

The actor, 31, and his former costar Aimee Lou Wood recently sat down with PEOPLE to discuss their partnership with Venmo ahead of the launch of its debit card and expanded checkout capabilities. They both say the collaboration brought back memories of their time on The White Lotus together, but it hit extra close to home for Schwarzenegger.

“I don’t know if this ever happened to you, Aimee — I sent it in our group text from White Lotus — but I have people that sent me money on Venmo during episodes of White Lotus,” he reveals. “It was really strange.”

“I sent it all back, don’t worry,” he adds, calling the experience “funny.”

“But I did. I got a lot of people that sent me money.”

While Wood, 31, couldn’t relate to Schwarzenegger’s experience, she did admit that it reminded her of how much money she spent on coconuts while in Thailand after previously revealing to PEOPLE that she was “addicted” to them.

“It was chronic,” she laughs, joking that she was never reimbursed for the major expense. “I could not stop with the coconuts. I just absolutely loved them!”

“I was so hydrated,” she continues. “I think I was overly hydrated, actually.”

Wood and Schwarzenegger also reflect on the bond they developed during the seven months they spent on set last summer. In fact, just two days before they were offered the opportunity to team up with Venmo, they had a conversation about looking for another project to do together.

“We immediately texted each other,” Schwarzenegger shares. “We were both so excited to be able to work with Venmo, but also get to work with each other once again. And then Venmo had these different ideas of doing this amazing commercial and video and dancing to this song of ‘You Can Venmo This’ and ‘You Can Venmo That.’”

“The whole experience was just really fun and put us in a fun situation to get to dance with each other,” he continues.

Wood agrees, noting that it’s always “really sad when it does come to a close” after spending so much time with cast members filming and promoting a show and then feeling “separation anxiety.”

“Seven months all of us together, in the same place, and then I went back to England and it was so lonely,” she admits.

They haven’t had to be long-distance friends for too long, though. Schwarzenegger says he and Wood have “gotten to hang so much” recently, calling it “the best few weeks.”

“Aimee and I worked in L.A. together, and then we both flew to New York and we worked on the same shoot in New York, and then the next day we got to do the Met Ball together,” he notes. “Then the next day we both flew to London for a week and worked together, and then I stayed for a couple of days and had some extra days off and we got to hang.”

“We were reunited a lot,” Wood adds. “And I feel like you and I have been really lucky. We’ve had loads of time together, which is the best.”
