Penn Badgley, Meghann Fahy to Star in Romantic Comedy ‘You Deserve Each Other’ for Amazon MGM (Exclusive)

Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy are set to star in You Deserve Each Other, an Amazon MGM romantic comedy based on the novel by Sarah Hogle.
Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, who served as writers have been behind rom-com hits Never Been Kissed and He’s Just Not That Into You, are set to direct the feature. The duo also revised the script initially written by Brett Haley and Marc Basch.
Financing and production banner Fifth Season is producing Each Other alongside Anthony Bregman and Peter Cron of Likely Story.
Described as a lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers rom-com, Each Other follows Naomi and Nick, a couple who are about to get married and live happily ever after except for one thing: they’ve fallen completely out of love. With the wedding rapidly approaching and its pressure mounting, they both resolve to secretly push the other into calling off the wedding using all means at their disposal – pranks, sabotage, and all-out emotional warfare. (Don’t worry, they fall back in love along the way.)
The novel was a two-time Goodreads Choice Awards nominee, for best romance and best debut, as well as an Amazon Editors’ Pick for best romance. It was published in 2020 by Penguin imprint G.P. Putnam’s Sons.
Kohn and Silverstein were big-name rom-com writers. Their resume includes The Vow, starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, and the Rebel Wilson-Dakota Johnson-headlining How to Be Single. They also penned the all-star He’s Just Not That Into You and ’90s classic Never Been Kissed. They made their directorial debut with the 2018 Amy Schumer comedy I Feel Pretty.
Badgley was known as one of the stars of CW’s Gossip Girl, who then reinvented himself and earned acclaim for his long-running lead role in the Netflix global hit You, which he also produced. Among his film credits are Margin Call, for which he earned an Indie Spirit Award, and Emma Stone’s Easy A.
Fahy may be best known for her breakout role in the second season of HBO’s The White Lotus, which earned her an Emmy nomination and a SAG Award. The actress is having a busy year with the February release of the Christopher Landon thriller Drop, and she is currently starring alongside Milly Alcock and Julianne Moore in Netflix’s Sirens. She will next be seen in the drama Rebuilding opposite Josh O’Connor, which first premiered at Sundance and will release theatrically later this year.
Badgley is represented by CAA, Brillstein, and Hansen Jacobson while Fahy is repped by WME, Anonymous and Sloane Offer
Kohn and Silverstein are represented by UTA, Entertainment 360, and Sloane Offer, while Hogle is repped by Root Literary and Gersh.
