CBS is shoring up its Monday night lineup.
The broadcast network has picked up first-year comedy Poppa’s House, starring father and son Damon Wayans Sr. and Jr., and drama NCIS: Origins — a prequel to the flagship series, which also serves as its lead-in — for full seasons of 18 episodes each. The shows, both produced by CBS Studios, have slotted in well alongside veterans The Neighborhood and NCIS on CBS’ Monday schedule.
“NCIS: Origins has added a brilliant new dimension to the NCIS franchise with an origin story of Leroy Jethro Gibbs and a cinematic ’90s experience that features distinct characters, stories and crime solving,” said CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach. “Poppa’s House excels with the dynamic father/son chemistry between Damon and Damon Jr. and their family-inspired stories that bring this comedy to life. These shows fit seamlessly into our Monday night lineup while resonating with viewers on CBS and Paramount+.”
The two shows join Young Sheldon spinoff Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage in earning a full-season pickup at the network. CBS’ update of Matlock, meanwhile, has already been renewed for the 2025-26 season.
The Oct. 14 premiere of NCIS: Origins has drawn 9 million viewers to date, based on VideoAmp linear data and internal streaming figures from CBS (the network is in a contract dispute with Nielsen and not using the latter’s ratings data for the time being). Poppa’s House, which debuted a week later, has 6.41 million cross-platform viewers for its premiere so far.
Poppa’s House also stars Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson. Dean Lorey executive produces the series with Wayans Sr. and Wayans Jr.
Austin Stowell plays the younger version of Gibbs (the role Mark Harmon played in the original) in NCIS: Origins; the cast also includes Kyle Schmid, Mariel Molino, Tyla Abercrumbie, Diany Rodriguez and Caleb Foote. Franchise veterans David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal executive produce with Mark Harmon and Sean Harmon.
