Princess Beatrice Holds Hands with Husband at Easter Outing Following Baby Athena’s Premature Birth

Princess Beatrice is celebrating her first Easter as a mother of two daughters.

On Easter Sunday, Princess Beatrice joined King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the royal family for the Easter Matins Service at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, keeping with tradition.

Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, held hands as they made their way into the church. While some royals pulled up in cars, they arrived on foot alongside Beatrice’s younger sister, Princess Eugenie, and Eugenie’s husband, Jack Brooksbank.

Also walking into the Easter mass were Prince Edward; Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh; and James, Earl of Wessex.

Both of Princess Beatrice’s parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, also attended.

Princess Beatrice, 36, and Edo, 41, are marking their first Easter since the early birth of their second daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, on Jan. 22.

On Jan. 29, Buckingham Palace shared the news that Athena was born the week prior along with the first picture of the infant, taken by Edo. While the baby arrived several weeks early, with the palace originally announcing an “early spring” due date, it’s understood that her premature arrival was not unexpected.

The palace statement said that baby Athena was born weighing 4 lbs, 5 oz., and that both she and Beatrice were “doing well.”

“Her Royal Highness and her daughter are healthy and doing well, and the family are enjoying spending time together with Athena’s older siblings, Wolfie and Sienna,” the palace said, referring to their 3-year-old daughter, Sienna, and Edo’s son, Christopher Woolf, 9, from a previous relationship.

Beatrice and Edo made their first public appearance after Athena’s birth at the Borne Wonderland Gala in London on March 6, where the princess was announced as the organization’s new patron. Borne is a British medical research charity endeavoring to end premature birth, and Princess Beatrice opened up in an essay for British Vogue soon after about taking on the “very personal appointment.”

“Preterm birth affects so many families, leaving them faced with the very same challenges I found myself confronting. During this time, I found comfort in being as open as possible with family, friends and even other mums at the school gates, and in trying to learn as much as I could. So often we don’t take the time to share – especially when it comes to our pregnancy or our health in general,” Beatrice wrote for British Vogue.

“Once you start, you quickly come to realize that everyone has a story, and often, on some level, a shared experience of birth. It brings people together,” she reflected.
