Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell Clash Over Double-Booked Wedding Venue in You’re Cordially Invited Trailer
Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell are fighting at a wedding — no, two weddings — in their new comedy.
You’re Cordially Invited, stars Witherspoon, 48, and Ferrell, 57, as the sister of a bride and the father of a bride at two separate weddings. Upon arriving at the wedding venue, the two learn the space has accidentally been double-booked, and that both wedding parties will need to accommodate the other for each wedding to happen as planned.
The venue’s booking error sets off a battle of wits between Ferrell and Witherspoon’s characters as they try to ensure each party’s wedding retains dominance over the other in an increasingly ridiculous wedding weekend. Meredith Hagner portrays Witherspoon’s character’s sister, while Geraldine Viswanathan plays Ferrell’s daughter
“When two weddings are accidentally booked on the same day at the same venue, each bridal party is challenged with preserving their family’s special moment while making the most of the unanticipated tight quarters,” reads an official synopsis for the upcoming comedy. “In a hilarious battle of determination and grit, the father of the bride (Ferrell) and sister of the other bride (Witherspoon) chaotically go head-to-head as they stop at nothing to uphold an unforgettable celebration for their loved ones.”
Prime Video additionally teased the new movie by releasing a video that shows Witherspoon and Ferrell humorously clashing on set over who has booked a large trailer. “It’s kind of funny, I mean, the movie we’re promoting is about a double-booked wedding venue, so this is kind of like that,” Ferrell quips in that video, before the pair realize the trailer is being used by a random crew member.
You’re Cordially Invited also features an ensemble cast that includes Jimmy Tatro, Stony Blyden, Leanne Morgan, Rory Scovel, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Ramona Young and Celia Weston.
Nicholas Stoller, known for directing comedies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Neighbors, wrote and directed the film, his first new movie as a director since 2022’s Bros.
You’re Cordially Invited begins streaming on Prime Video Jan. 30.
