Sabrina Carpenter Reveals ‘Man’s Best Friend’ Album Is “Not for Any Pearl Clutchers”

Sabrina Carpenter teased her upcoming album, Man’s Best Friend, revealing that those who weren’t fans of the risqué nature of her Short n’ Sweet album may not like her newest project.
In a teaser clip shared Thursday from her CBS Mornings appearance on Friday, Carpenter opened up about what fans can expect for her seventh studio album.
“The album is not for any pearl clutchers,” the pop star told Gayle King of her Man’s Best Friend album, which will be released Aug. 29.
However, she did insist that some of her more skeptical listeners may find joy in her new songs. “But I also think that even pearl clutchers can listen to an album like that in their own solitude and find something that makes them smirk and chuckle to themselves,” Carpenter continued.
After King noted that Carpenter’s new songs are just as “sexual” as they are “powerful” and “vulnerable,” she responded, “I think that’s the thing, is sometimes people hear the lyrics that are really bold or they go, ‘I don’t want to sing this in front of other people.’
“It’s like it’s almost too TMI,” Carpenter continued. “But I think about being at a concert with, you know, however many young women I see in the front row that are screaming at the top of their lungs with their best friends, and you can go like, ‘Oh, we can all sigh [in] relief like, ‘This is just fun.’ And that’s all it has to be.”
Man’s Best Friend previously faced backlash when some fans expressed issues with the album’s cover art, which showed Carpenter down on all fours as a man grabbed her hair. While some people argued that the photo was degrading to women, Carpenter stood by the photo and poked fun at the controversy while sharing alternate album covers.
On June 25, Carpenter shared a black-and-white album cover that showed her laying her head on a suited man’s shoulder. “Here is a new alternate cover approved by God,” she wrote via X while sharing the alternate cover.
The album cover art was not the first time Carpenter has faced backlash for seemingly sexualizing herself through her music. She reacted to her critics while speaking to Rolling Stone in a June 12 interview. “It’s always so funny to me when people complain … like, ‘All she does is sing about this,’” she told the outlet at the time. “But those are the songs that you’ve made popular.
“Clearly you love sex. You’re obsessed with it. It’s in my show,” she continued. “There’s so many more moments than the ‘Juno’ positions, but those are the ones you post every night and comment on. I can’t control that.”
