Samuel Goldwyn Films Secures North American Rights for the Hilarious Sci-Fi Comedy ‘Cold Storage’ from Studiocanal
Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired the North American rights to Jonny Campbell’s sci-fi comedy *Cold Storage* from the production and sales group Studiocanal, as announced on Monday.
The film stars Joe Keery (*Stranger Things*), Georgina Campbell (*Barbarian*), and Sosie Bacon (*Smile*), alongside esteemed actors Vanessa Redgrave (*Mission: Impossible*), Lesley Manville (*Phantom Thread*), and Liam Neeson (*Taken*).
Directed by Campbell (*Dracula*), *Cold Storage* features a script by David Koepp (*Jurassic Park*, *Mission: Impossible*), based on his debut novel. Koepp is also producing the film, alongside Gavin Polone, known for his work on *Zombieland* and *Panic Room*.
Keery and Campbell portray Teacake and Naomi, two young employees at a self-storage facility located on the site of a former U.S. military base. Their routine night shift takes a wild turn when a parasitic fungus escapes from the lowest sublevel of the base, where it had been sealed by the government decades earlier. As the temperature rises underground, this highly contagious and rapidly mutating microorganism begins to multiply, unleashing its brain-controlling and body-bursting horrors upon the facility’s inhabitants—human and otherwise. It falls to Teacake and Naomi, with assistance from a grizzled retired bioterror operative played by Neeson, to contain the threat and prevent humanity’s extinction.
Samuel Goldwyn Films intends to release *Cold Storage* widely in theaters later this year.
The acquisition deal was negotiated by Miles Fineburg from Samuel Goldwyn Films and Chloe Marquet, head of international sales, along with Charlotte Lopez, SVP of international sales, and Sophie Leuthreau, head of business and legal affairs for international distribution from Studiocanal.
