Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Legal Team Seeks to Explore Juror Attitudes Toward Sex and Violence in Upcoming Trial

The pre-trial excitement intensifies as Sean “Diddy” Combs prepares for his Manhattan trial concerning sex trafficking and racketeering charges. The rap mogul’s legal team has submitted a comprehensive questionnaire for potential jurors, probing into their feelings about sex, drugs, and violence, which has raised eyebrows among the prosecution.
In a letter addressed to Judge Arun Subramanian on Friday, Combs’ attorneys proposed a detailed questionnaire aimed at potential jurors, which includes inquiries about adult themes and real-life incidents of physical assault. This questionnaire will be distributed to those who have responded to their jury summons in an effort to streamline the selection process on May 5.
The content of the questionnaire implies that jurors will be shown footage related to the sex and drug-laden multi-day “freak-off” parties mentioned in the prosecution’s indictment of Combs. Furthermore, the defense is contesting the leaked footage from a 2018 incident in which Combs appears to assault and drag his then-girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie Ventura, at a Los Angeles hotel. The defense claims that the video, which was leaked to the media, was manipulated before airing. Ventura is expected to be the first of four witnesses called by the prosecution.
The prosecution expressed their concerns to the judge regarding the extensive questionnaire, stating that at 72 questions, it is excessively long and that many parts are “utterly irrelevant” to a juror’s ability to serve. They argued that these questions are better addressed by the judge rather than prior to the trial’s commencement. Both parties have struggled to agree on the appropriate questions to include in the juror questionnaires.
“The defense believes it is crucial to allow potential jurors to express their honest opinions about the unprecedented and negative media attention directed at Mr. Combs,” the beleaguered founder of Bad Boy Records’ legal team stated.
Among the various inquiries in the defense’s questionnaire, one question asks potential jurors if they have viewed any documentaries or series that feature interviews with accusers and others who typically depict Combs unfavorably, including titles such as The Fall of Diddy, Diddy Do It?; The Downfall of Diddy; and Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy.
Currently, Combs is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn as he awaits trial. He has consistently denied all allegations made against him and asserts that he has never subjected anyone to sexual abuse.
