Sterling K. Brown Stars in Hulu Adventure Epic ‘Washington Black’ Trailer

Sterling K. Brown is starring in another Hulu series where the world isn’t exactly as it seems.
Washington Black, set for release on July 23, is an adaptation of Canadian author Esi Edugyan’s 2018 novel which follows the life of an 11-year-old George Washington Black after a life-threatening incident forces him to flee from the sugar plantation in Barbados where he was born. Good fortune and a natural curiosity in the sciences lead Washington on a journey around the globe where he forms a new understanding of his past and is able to dream unimaginable possibilities for his future as a Black man in the 19th century.
In the series (which now has a trailer, below), young Washington is played by Eddie Karanja (The Sandman, Jack and the Beanstalk) and adult Washington, also known as “Wash,” by Ernest Kingley Jr. (The Sandman, War of the Worlds). Tom Ellis (Lucifer) portrays Christopher “Titch” Wilde, an explorer and ambitious engineer who first takes Washington under his wing and helps him escape.

All eight episodes of Washington Black will premiere on July 23 on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally.
It’s during Washington’s travels to Nova Scotia that he encounters Brown’s Medwin Harris, a Black refugee who risks his life to protect Wash and other members of the Black community in Halifax. It’s also there that he meets his love interest Tanna Goff, a mixed-race woman of status, played by Iola Evans. Other stars in the series include Rupert Graves, Edward Bluemel and Sharon Duncan-Brewster.
Selwyn Seyfu Hinds (The Twilight Zone) is the creator of the adaptation and co-showrunner alongside Kimberly Ann Harrison. The pair are also executive producers along with Brown, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Wanuri Kahiu, Mo Marable, Rob Seidenglanz, Jeremy Bell, Lindsay Williams, D.J. Goldberg, Jennifer Johnson and Anthony Hemingway. Additionally, Edugyan serves as co-producer. Washington Black is produced by 20th Television Production in association with Indian Meadows Productions and The Gotham Group.
