‘Moana 2’ Makes Waves: How the Sequel Captivated Audiences on Disney+

Moana has maintained its status as the most streamed movie in the United States for the past two years, according to Nielsen’s figures. However, this year may bring some competition—specifically from its sequel.

Moana 2 made its streaming debut on March 12 on Disney+ and quickly climbed to the top of the streaming rankings for the week of March 10-16. The film amassed nearly 2 billion minutes of viewing time, marking the highest single-week total for any feature film on a streaming platform thus far in 2025. This impressive feat surpassed Netflix’s Back in Action, which previously held the record with 1.54 billion minutes in January. Additionally, Moana re-entered the movie rankings after being absent from the top 10 for two weeks, clocking in at 223 million minutes.

Two other films also made it to the overall top 10 for the week: The Electric State, featuring Millie Bobby Brown, garnered 1.18 billion viewing minutes on Netflix, while the Spider-Man-adjacent Kraven the Hunter achieved 911 million minutes, also on Netflix. They ranked third and eighth, respectively, on the overall charts.

Netflix’s highly talked-about series Adolescence finished ninth overall and second among original series, with 907 million minutes of watch time in its premiere week (it launched on March 13). Reacher, which was the overall leader the previous week, retained its top position among originals with 1.31 billion minutes, marking its fourth consecutive week exceeding the billion-minute threshold. Prime Video also featured two additional series in the top 10 originals: Invincible (587 million minutes) and The Wheel of Time (534 million minutes), both joining Reacher on the list.

The White Lotus (949 million minutes on Max) and the Yellowstone prequel 1923 (833 million on Paramount+) reached their highest totals to date, while Severance (586 million on Apple TV+) made the top 10 originals for the ninth consecutive week.

Nielsen’s streaming ratings only capture viewing on TV sets and do not account for minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. These ratings reflect U.S. audiences exclusively, excluding viewers from other countries. The top streaming titles for March 10-16, 2025, are listed below.
