Tanner Martin and his wife, Shay Wright, added a new member to their family.
The influencer couple announced the arrival of their first baby, a daughter, on Thursday, May 15. Her birth comes five years after they started documenting their life online when Tanner was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at age 25.
“She’s here,” they captioned a photo uploaded to their Instagram Stories on their joint account, featuring a picture of Tanner and Shay lying in the hospital bed beside each other while cradling their newborn baby.
Details about the baby’s birth have yet to be shared. PEOPLE reached out to both Tanner and Shay for comment.
Tanner and Shay built a community of loving and supportive followers on social media since they first started sharing Martin’s cancer journey online. In addition to health updates, they’ve been transparent about their choice to have a baby amid his terminal diagnosis.
On Feb. 26, they shed light on their decision, saying in an Instagram video that it “was not” one they “came to lightly.” Tanner added that he was “pretty convinced” they weren’t going to follow through at one point, saying he was “pretty set on that.”

Tanner broke down the “two biggest things” on his mind at the time, noting the possibility of passing down the cancer to the baby and the possibility of not being there for his child.
They also considered “preventatives,” too, for positive outcomes if they chose to have a baby. One of them included increased family involvement, so Shay asked her brother if he’d be willing to step in as a male figure if needed.
Ultimately, they chose to move forward with their decision to have a baby — and announced their pregnancy news on Nov. 3 alongside a TikTok montage of videos taken in recent years.
“Cancer has taken so much from us,” text over the video reads. “I know you wanted to be a dad so badly, but I got to see you be the best dog dad. We tried IVF and planned to have a baby, but sepsis and your cancer progressing prevented us. Until now.”
The video ended with the couple, in matching outfits, holding newspapers that read, “Breaking News: Baby on the Way!” As confetti rained down, Shay took a stroller while Tanner held up an ultrasound image.
On March 9, the pair shared an Instagram clip of Tanner opening a “sweet gift” they received in the mail so his daughter will always know that they are connected, which included a book and bracelets.
On May 11, Tanner shared an update on their baby’s expected arrival via video on Instagram.
“Just thought I’d hop on here and give you guys a quick update. The chemo makes me really hoarse, so I sound like a different me,” he started the clip. “But I’m doing okay, just tired. Guess what’s happening. Guess who arrives in six days.”
Tanner then introduced two little baby slippers to the camera, a sweet reference to his daughter’s arrival. He ended the video with a health update, sharing his chemo regimen details.
“I stop my chemo for a week tomorrow because it’s three weeks on, one week off. Very excited for that… anyways, that’s my update. Love you,” Tanner concluded, blowing kisses to the camera.
