The acclaimed series, which premiered on NBC in 1994, showcased the lives of healthcare professionals at the fictional County General Hospital as they navigated the challenges of their demanding careers alongside tumultuous personal lives.
This groundbreaking medical drama introduced many rising stars who would later become household names, including George Clooney, Julianna Margulies, Noah Wyle, Eriq La Salle, and more, all of whom enjoyed substantial careers after the series concluded its 15-season run.

George Clooney as Doug Ross
On his journey to becoming a movie star, George Clooney infused the role of Dr. Doug Ross with his signature charm and iconic Caesar haircut. After his five-season tenure on the show, he transitioned to blockbuster films such as From Dusk Till Dawn, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Ides of March, the Ocean’s franchise, and many others.
Though he spent much of his career as a sought-after bachelor, Clooney eventually found love with barrister and human rights advocate Amal Alamuddin, whom he married in Italy in 2014. The couple welcomed twins Alexander and Ella on June 6, 2017.

Eriq La Salle
Long before Eriq La Salle’s character Peter Benton was a key player on ER, he made audiences laugh as the suave “Prince of Soul Glo,” Daryl Jenks, in Coming to America and appeared in various other films and television shows, including A Different World and Quantum Leap.
After his eight seasons on the medical drama, La Salle continued his acting career, taking on roles in 24, How to Make It in America, and Logan, with his latest credit in the upcoming 2024 film On Call.

Anthony Edwards as Mark Green
Ensuring everything ran smoothly at County General was Mark Greene, portrayed by Anthony Edwards. Prior to this role, Edwards had appeared in It Takes Two, Northern Exposure, and Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, among other notable works.
Like La Salle, Edwards was a regular on the show for the first eight seasons before departing to spend more time with his family. Although his character was killed off, he made a return in a flashback scene during the 15th season.
Edwards married makeup artist Jeanine Lobell in 1994, and the couple had four children before divorcing in 2015. He later found love with Mare Winningham, a former co-star from ER, and they eloped in 2021 after growing closer during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Noah Wyle as John Carter
Noah Wyle captured the hearts of viewers as the baby-faced Dr. John Carter for 11 seasons. Throughout the years, he successfully built his career with roles in Falling Skies, Enough, The Librarians, and more.
Three decades after ER’s debut, Wyle is back in the emergency room, portraying Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in the critically-acclaimed Max series The Pitt.
In his personal life, Wyle is a devoted family man. He has been married to Sara since 2014, and they welcomed their daughter Frances a year later, adding her to his older siblings Owen and Auden, whom he shares with ex-wife Tracy Warbin.

Julianna Margulies as Carol Hathaway
Julianna Margulies’ portrayal of troubled registered nurse Carol Hathaway earned her an Emmy in the show’s first season, and her star continued to rise thereafter.
After her six-season run, Margulies took on roles in The Sopranos, Canterbury’s Law, Snakes on a Plane, and other projects, before landing the lead in The Good Wife, which earned her an additional two Emmys.
Margulies has been married to lawyer Keith Lieberthal since 2007, and they share a son, Kieran Lindsay Lieberthal, born on January 17, 2008.

William H. Macy as David Morgenstern
Long before he was stirring trouble as Frank Gallagher on Shameless, William H. Macy played Dr. David Morgenstern, the chief of surgery on ER. Between his stints on ER and Shameless, he appeared in The Maiden Heist, The Lincoln Lawyer, and Versailles, among other projects.
The two-time Emmy winner has been married to Felicity Huffman since 1997. The couple welcomed their eldest daughter, Sophia, in 2000, followed by their youngest, Georgia, in 2002.

Sherry Stringfield as Susan Lewis
By the time Sherry Stringfield joined ER as Susan Lewis, she already had a well-established career, having portrayed Blake Thorpe in CBS’ Guiding Light for three years and appearing in NYPD Blue.
Following her time on the show, Stringfield acted in Tell Me You Love Me, The Stepfather, Under the Dome, and more. Her most recent work was in Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, where she played Karen Garrett from 2016 to 2017.
Stringfield is the mother of two children, Milo and Phoebe, whom she shares with ex-husband Larry Joseph.

Yvette Freeman as Haleh Adams
Yvette Freeman portrayed nurse Haleh Adams, a recurring character throughout the show’s entire 15-season run.
In the years since, Freeman has appeared in Days of Our Lives, The Bold and the Beautiful, Orange Is the New Black, A Black Lady Sketch Show, and other projects.
According to sources, she has been married to Lanny Hartley since 1996.

Emily Wagner as Doris Pickman
Amidst all the chaos, licensed practical nurse Doris Pickman, played by Emily Wagner, kept the good vibes flowing.
Before his passing in 2021 at age 55, the late Dearon Thompson, known as Deezer D, also appeared in Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and Bringing Down the House, among other works.

Abraham Benrubi as Jerry Markovic
Abraham Benrubi played Jerry Markovic, the desk clerk who kept the medical staff informed and updated on patient news.
Since the late ’80s, Benrubi has been steadily working, with early credits including a bodyguard role in Living Dolls. He has also appeared in Blossom, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Criminal Minds, Men in Trees, and many other notable productions.
