‘The Chosen’ Reveals Intense Season 5 Trailer and Streaming Premiere Date

The eagerly anticipated “Last Supper” season of The Chosen now has trailer and a premiere date.

The hit Biblical historical drama from showrunner Dallas Jenkins has revealed a rather intense season five trailer, below, which teases the drama’s most ambitious episodes yet as Jesus (Jonathan Roumie) rages against the moneychangers at the Temple in Jerusalem and sets in motion the events that eventually lead to his crucifixion.

“My house should be a house of prayer, but you make it a den of thieves!” Jesus scolds, while Judas (Luke Dimyan) watches in horror on the sidelines and whispers, “What have you done?”

The new season will have its premiere on Prime Video on June 15.

The streaming move follows the producers rolling out the eight-episode season in select theaters via Fathom Special Events. The Chosen: Last Supper Parts 1, 2 and 3 have collectively grossed a whopping $60 million globally at the box office since March 26. This marks a sharp increase from the theatrical hauls for seasons three and four, which grossed around that same number for both seasons combined.

The new season’s official description: “Season five follows Jesus’ triumph to treachery as his final days unfold in a story that changed the world. Welcomed as a king into Jerusalem, he boldly confronts the corrupt merchants, sparking a chain of events that shakes the city. While religious leaders scramble to silence his growing influence, Jesus shares one last meal with his closest followers. But in the shadows, Judas makes a deal that seals both their fates. In a tale of power, faith and betrayal that echoes through time – one man’s ultimate sacrifice becomes humanity’s greatest story.”

The Chosen launched as a crowd-funded effort in 2019 and has since grown into a global phenomenon that has racked up hundreds of millions of cumulative viewers.

In a Hollywood Reporter cover story last year that chronicled the rise of the show from its very humble beginnings, Jenkins said, “I’m not ashamed that I’m an evangelical. I’m not ashamed that it’s a show about Jesus. But we really do believe that the show can be watched by anybody … I’m not trying to, through the art, convert anybody or preach anything. It’s a historical drama.”

The series also stars Shahar Isaac as Peter, Paras Patel as Matthew, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, Noah James as Andrew, George H. Xanthis as John, Abe Bueno-Jallad as Big James, Vanessa Benavente as Mother Mary, Richard Fancy as Caiaphas, Paul Ben-Victor as King Herod and Andrew James Allen as Pontius Pilate.
