Tom Ellis to Return for ‘Tell Me Lies’ Season 3, Teases “Dark, Toxic and Funny” Storylines

The Bree and Oliver chaos isn’t over just yet.
Tom Ellis, who plays the flirtatious college professor who gets in a romantic situationship with Catherine Missal’s Bree in Tell Me Lies season two, recently told People that he will be returning for the forthcoming third season.
“Yes, I’m going back. I’m actually going there on Saturday to start shooting,” Ellis said at CBS Fest in Los Angeles.
Ellis, who is married to Tell Me Lies showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer, also revealed that he’s read “the first four episodes” already and teased that viewers “will not be disappointed” by the new season.
“It is as dark, toxic and funny as ever,” the Lucifer actor added. “And just when you thought our characters couldn’t do anything more ridiculous to themselves, they ended up doing it.”
In season two, Oliver pursues Bree, despite being married to Bree’s college professor, Marianne (Gabriella Pession). However, it’s later revealed that Oliver and Marianne have an open relationship, and that his wife was aware of his affair the whole time, though he withholds that detail from Bree.
Ellis also teased that his character will have “a lot of redeeming moments” in the third season, adding, “I’ve got to be honest, the focus isn’t so much on my character this season, but it still plays very much into the Bree storyline.”
While season three plot details have been kept under wraps, fans are likely hoping the next installment reveals the mystery person with whom Bree was seen talking on the phone in the 2015 timeline before her wedding day to Branden Cook’s Evan.
Some fans speculated that it could be Oliver, however, Oppenheimer told The Hollywood Reporter following the season two finale in October, “I think it being Oliver would be probably too obvious. I’m sure some people are guessing that. But I think a lot of people also probably know that it’s more likely not Oliver.”
Tell Me Lies also stars Grace Van Patten, Jackson White, Spencer House, Sonia Mena, Alicia Crowder, Edmund Donovan and Thomas Doherty.
