Usher’s Wonder-ful Concert: Superstar Brings Out Icon at Sold-Out L.A. Tour Date

Usher closed out his sold-out four-night stint at Los Angeles’ new Intuit Dome by serenading the crowd with his greatest hits and bringing out music legend Stevie Wonder.

While the audience spent most of the night on its feet as Usher dazzled with his catalog of hits and guest stars that included comedian Kevin Hart, DJ Lil Jon and rappers Juicy J and Tommy Richman, the night’s biggest ovation came when he brought out the Wonder to pay homage.

But Wonder used the occasion to return the favor and elevate Usher: “I’m here to celebrate you and that’s why I’m here tonight,” he said, noting Usher’s recent hit “Good Good” was among his favorites.

Usher sat kneeling next to his idol as the singer and activist also used the occasion to urge people to get out the vote, noting his own upcoming tour and new single were designed to promote healing and unity.

“You are the ones to hold the key,” Wonder told the audience. “My vision has always been to see this be a united people of these United States.”

Usher then joined Wonder as he sang “Ribbon in the Sky,” along with the entire audience — he also sang “Overjoyed,” which aptly described the reaction of the crowd to Wonder’s presence.

Wonder was not the only one to whom Usher paid tribute. Earlier in the set, Usher also singled out Bobby Brown in the audience, noting he scraped to buy Brown’s first album, then played snippets of hits including “Tenderoni” — the crowd sang along, with Brown beaming.

The more than two-hour show also featured a comical moment when Hart came out as the band started playing “Nice and Slow,” taking off his tank top before the sultry hit began to play.

“Ladies, I got time tonight!” Hart told the audience, before Usher shooed the comedian off the stage. “What the fuck are you doing,” Usher asked, as the audience roared with laughter.

Usher’s Usher: Past Present Future tour continues through December.
