What are split ends?
When the outer layer of the hair shaft, the cuticle, gets damaged, it leads to exposure of the cortex of the hair shaft leading to fraying of ends. Splits can occur only at the tip or at multiple levels.
Why do they occur?
They occur due to damage to hair shaft as a result of:
Dry hair: if hair is dry, it8 is more likely to get damaged and develop split ends
Mechanical injury during brushing: If hair is combed with force when wet can lead to tears throughout the hair shaft length. This causes split ends
Chemical treatments: application of chemicals and heat during straightening, rebonding, keratin, cysteine or hair botox can injure hair shaft.
Environmental stressors: dry , arid environment, excess sun exposure can leads to drying of hair and making split ends worse

How to know if your hair fall is normal?

Can a product seal your split ends?
Products with silicones may temporarily smoothen the ends but it cannot fix split ends. There are no products which can permanently get rid of split ends.

How to prevent
This is the most important part as recurrences are common.
Be gentle when hair is wet
Use a paddle brush or wide toothed comb
Use a conditioner after every wash
Use a hydrating hair mask once a week
Use a hair serum after every wash
Keep heat styling to the minimum
Apply heat protectant spray before styling your hair
Avoid tight hair styles
Use a silk scrunchie instead of a rubber band.
