Everything You Need to Know About The Beatles Biopics: The Fab Four Make Their Grand Debut on the Big Screen!

The Beatles biopics are coming together!

In early 2024, Sony Pictures and Neal Street Productions announced that director Sam Mendes would be leading four separate yet interconnected Beatles biopics. In a February 2024 statement, Mendes expressed his honor in telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time and conveyed his excitement to redefine the cinematic experience.

After months of speculation regarding casting, Mendes unveiled the actors portraying the “Fab Four” at CinemaCon 2025 on March 31: Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon.

During the event, Mendes announced that the project would be collectively titled *The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event*, designed to be the “first bingeable theatrical experience” upon its release in April 2028.

From the star-studded cast to the anticipated theater release dates, here’s everything to know about *The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event*.

**What will The Beatles biopics be about?**

The Beatles enjoyed a historic career as a rock band, winning eight Grammy awards and setting numerous records before their breakup in 1970. Co-producer Pippa Harris stated in February 2024 that the aim of this four-part project is to deliver a “uniquely thrilling and epic cinematic experience,” with each film contributing to a single narrative about the most celebrated band of all time.

At CinemaCon, Mendes discussed how the films would be shot from the perspective of each band member, emphasizing, “They’re four very different human beings. Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.”

He continued, “Together, all four films will narrate the story of the greatest band in history. I felt that the band’s story was too vast to encapsulate in a single movie, and adapting it into a TV mini-series didn’t seem right.”

Although each band member will have a standalone film, Starr noted in March 2025 that their stories would intersect.

“My life as a lad, John’s life, Paul’s life, George’s life—I mean, they must interact in some way,” he explained. “There’ll be Beatles in mine around when I joined, and there’ll be Beatles in Paul’s. We’ll all be there.”

**Who is playing each of The Beatles?**

The cast for the Beatles biopics was officially confirmed in March 2025, with Keoghan portraying Starr, Mescal as McCartney, Quinn as Harrison, and Dickinson as Lennon.

In December 2024, while casting rumors were still circulating, Mescal remarked to a media outlet that being part of such an incredible story would be a dream come true.

Dickinson remained discreet about his casting when he spoke to another media outlet in January 2025, although he mentioned that playing John Lennon would be a brilliant opportunity and he looked forward to working with Mendes and the rest of the team.

Starr himself commented on the casting rumors when he spoke to a media outlet in December 2024, sharing that it would be “great” if Keoghan took on his role.

“I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons,” Starr added. “I hope not too many.”

**Who is directing The Beatles biopics?**

Mendes, who previously directed *Skyfall* in 2012 and *1917* in 2019, will oversee all four Beatles biopics. At CinemaCon 2025, he shared that he had been trying to make a movie about the band for years.

“The Beatles changed my understanding of music,” the director stated.

**When will The Beatles biopics be released?**

Beatles fans, get ready! The four feature films are set to be released in April 2028, though it remains unclear whether they will debut simultaneously or be staggered weekly.

Filming has yet to commence, but Mendes announced at CinemaCon 2025 that they would be on set for one year.

**Where can I watch The Beatles biopics?**

What better venue for this four-part cinematic event than the theater itself? The Beatles biopics will premiere in theaters.
