‘Running Point’ Nets Quick Season 2 Renewal at Netflix

Call this one a fast break: Netflix has renewed its comedy series Running Point for a second season.
The pickup comes just a week after the show’s Feb. 27 premiere, but on the heels of a solid showing for its opening. Running Point’s first four days of release accrued 9.3 million views worldwide, according to Netflix’s internal data, ranking third on the streamer’s top 10 English-language series charts for last week.
“We are so thrilled to be able to deliver a season two of Running Point to the fans of the show,” said co-creator and executive producer Mindy Kaling. “We still cannot believe the response from audiences — thank you to everyone who has watched! Thank you to our partners at Netflix, Warner Brothers, our star who brought this show to life, Kate Hudson, and executive producers Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis, without whom there would be no Running Point.”
Running Point stars Hudson as Isla Gordon, who’s appointed president of a pro basketball team after a scandal forces her brother to resign. The series is inspired by the life of L.A. Lakers president and controlling owner Buss.
The show’s cast also includes Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Jay Ellis, Max Greenfield, Justin Theroux, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Roberto Sanchez, Uche Agada and Dane DiLiegro.
Running Point comes from Warner Bros. TV, where Kaling has an overall deal, and her Kaling International. Kaling, Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen are writers and executive producers, with Stassen serving as showrunner. Hudson, Howard Klein, Buss and Lakers executive Linda Rambis also executive produce; Jordan Rambis is a producer.
