‘The Lunar Chronicles’ Animated Movie Lands 2028 Release From Warner Bros.

The animated feature adaptation of The Lunar Chronicles has set a launch date.
Warner Bros. has slated director Noëlle Raffaele’s movie for theaters on Nov. 3, 2028. The film adapts author Marissa Meyer‘s best-selling novel series that focuses on a futuristic fairy tale universe.
Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation are behind the project that has a script credited to Lindsey Ferrentino and writing partners Kalen Egan and Travis Sentell. Christina Steinberg serves as producer.
“It takes a team of true visionaries to bring a world as rich and daring as The Lunar Chronicles to life. This is the kind of story that feels like it was waiting for just the right moment — and the right people — to be told. It’s thrilling, emotional, and completely unlike anything we’ve seen before,” Warner Bros. Pictures Animation president Bill Damaschke and Locksmith Animation CEO Natalie Fischer said in a joint statement. “We’re incredibly proud and can’t wait for audiences to experience it in 2028.”
Es Devlin and Patrick Hanenberger are production designers, while Laura and Kate Mulleavy are costume designers. Industrial Light & Magic is also involved.
The Lunar Chronicles is the second feature collaboration between Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation. It follows the forthcoming animated movie musical Bad Fairies, which hits theaters in July of 2027. Next up from Warner Bros. Pictures Animation is The Cat in the Hat, set for release early next year.
Meyer’s books put a sci-fi spin on classic fairy tale characters amid growing conflict between Earth and its former colony Luna. The novel series kicked off with the release of Cinder in 2012, and the movie adaptation was first announced in 2022.
Raffaele was a director on the animated series DC Super Hero Girls and served as story artist for The Lego Ninjago Movie and The Marvels.
